He is found in the Buffalo city directory as late as 1896 (Ancestry.com).

A Joseph Tregilgus, age 67 years 9 months, is listed in the City of Buffalo Register and Index of Deaths, 1895-1896, p. 377, exact date of death not discernible, but probably 1896.².

Betsey is enumerated in the 1850, 1855, and 1860 census records, living in Wales, Erie Co, NY with her father, Reuben Westcott.

In the years 1855 and 1860, Byron Westcott, born about 1850, is also enumerated in the household - listed as "son" in the 1855 NY state census. His designation as "son" might be relative to head of household, Reuben Westcott, but the 1866 probate records for Reuben Westcott do not list Byron as a child, even though he was still living at the time. This suggests he was a son of the only other household member in 1855, Betsey.

Betsey is identified as Betsey Tregilgus, wife of Joseph Tregilgus of Buffalo in her father's probate records, dated 20 Jan 1866.

She is enumerated in the 1865 NY state census living in Buffalo, wife of Joseph Tregilgus. Byron Tregilgus is listed as a son, age 15 - probably the Byron Westcott in the 1855 and 1860 census.

Betsey and Joseph had at least two children in Buffalo, both of whom died young: Nellie, born 9 July 1865, died June 1866, aged 11 months, and Joseph Tregilgus, born 28 July 1867, died 26 April 1868, aged 9 months.¹ Persch, granddaughter of Joseph Tregilgus, and great aunt of Virginia Richardson, per email from Virginia Richardson, Oct 2020.)

Joseph and Betsey are again in Buffalo in 1870; Byron Westcott, age 20, and Walter Westcott, age 10, are also in the household.

Joseph and Betsey are enumerated in the 1875 NY state census in Buffalo (under 'Fregilgus' at FamilySearch.org). Neither she nor her husband have been found in the 1880 census.

Betsey was a co-owner of the "Coit House" on Virginia St in Buffalo. In 1889 she sold her share to Byron Westcott, for $1.²

She died on 1 April 1890, probably buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo.

Byron H. Westcott died 30 May 1937 in Buffalo. His obituary indicates that he was born in Buffalo on 6 Aug 1849, but does not identify his parents.³ 31 May 1937, pg. 5, col 6; online at FultonHistory.com, 14 Oct 2020.)

Research Notes:

Betsey's birth date is often given as 26 Mar 1827 in various family trees on Ancestry.com, though no source is cited. This date agrees with the census records, and probably comes from Tregilgus family records. Her marriage date is frequently cited as 20 Aug 1866, but this isn't consistent with her father's probate records, dated 20 Jan 1866, which identify her as the wife of Joseph Tregilgus "of Buffalo." It is also inconsistent with the 1865 census, which shows Joseph Tregilgus and his wife Betsey, living in Buffalo.
